My DIY Wedding Favors Introduction

by admin on September 15, 2009

A wedding favor is given by the Bride to her guests as a small token of appreciation for attending their wedding.Wedding favors come in all shapes and sizes and styles to suit all budgets. The traditional  wedding favors of five almonds dates back almost 5 centuries ago, when guests were given bonbons in favor boxes as a gift for travelling a long distance to attend the wedding reception. The 5 almonds   are given as a gesture from the bride and groom in the hope of health, happiness, fertility, longevity and wealth.
Today the 5 almonds are still given as wedding favors to guests. There is a new twist to the almonds giving.  Brides hand out their favors in small boxes filled with chocolates, sweets, pastries, tea and coffee. Some brides also fill their DIY wedding favor boxes with soaps and perfumes, like the way the aristocrats used to deliver to their guests who had travelled a far to reach the wedding.

Many brides today, choose to have a theme for their wedding. This can be reflected in the choice of wedding favors given to guests at the reception.

Some brides’ leave their wedding favors on the tables as guests are having their meal which offers an ice breaker for guests at the table.

Especially as the bride and groom may have chosen to mix up both sides of family and friends as a way of getting to know the new in laws.  You may find yourself seated beside someone you have not met before.

The latest in wedding favors are personalized favors which often reflect a hobby or passion of both the bride and groom.

Beach weddings are popular and guests may receive flip flop gifts as a wedding favor, or palm tree gifts, or sea shells or glass star fish candle holders.

Keen golf newly weds may give guests candles in the shape of a golf ball, or a place card in the shape of a golf ball or golf club stirrers for their drinks.

Wedding favors come in all shapes, styles and designs.  Brides should try to choose favors which reflect their personality, hobby and budget. Favors should be choosen with thought and care and most of all the bride should have lots of fun and laughter in choosing her themed gifts.
